LET THIS OLD PHOTOGRAPH FIND ITS PLACE IN YOUR MEMORIES TOO…
The Pleiades-Setting Storm may blow in two days’ time, on 2 December.
(On 10 June the Pleiades-Rising storm appears, and on 2 December the Pleiades-Setting storm is seen in our geography. They blow on the days the Pleiades constellation joins and departs from the Taurus constellation.)
Winter is coming; there are still named storms ahead — on 9 December the “Kıran Geçiren” (Black Winter Storm), and then, whether you like it or not, on 21 December the “Winter Solstice Storm”. This 21 December is also the day the sun is farthest from the Earth — the end of the longest nights. We will wait for January for the Zemheri and Ayandon storms, and for February for the days when the Black Sea anchovy is at its most plentiful and ripe. The sailors’ calendar, reckoned by the old style, runs as follows: “At 80 days caulk, at 90 fit out, at 100 cast off, at 150 it’s summer.”
SAILORS, TAKE HEED.
