The beach

Güzelcehisar Beach is a strip of mixed sand and pebbles about 850 metres long in Güzelcehisar village, part of Bartın. The 800-metre wooden walkway running along the beach takes you to the lava columns at its end; the path finishes at a small islet beside the rocks.

The car parks and tea gardens belong to private businesses in the village.

Camping

A distinctive feature of Güzelcehisar is that you can camp around the beach. There are suitable areas for tent and caravan camping.

Combined with the lava columns

What makes the beach special is the 80-million-year-old basalt lava columns right beside it. Most of the columns are pentagonal prisms and run both vertically and horizontally. In Turkey, this formation is said to be found only in Bartın. In a single day you can both swim and explore the columns; details are on the Güzelcehisar Lava Columns page.

How to get there

• From Bartın: about 8 km west towards Bartın Port, then about 11 km more after the Güzelcehisar turn-off (17–19 km in total)
• From Amasra: first to Bartın, then on to Güzelcehisar; about 35–40 minutes by car
