Galla Market — Women's Market

Amasra Center, Amasra

Tuesdays and Fridays — from early morning until noon

Local Women’s Stalls

The Galla Market held twice a week in Amasra is one of the town’s most distinctive and genuinely local experiences. On Tuesdays and Fridays, from early morning until noon, local women set up their stalls and display their home-made produce.

The word “galla” is a local term used in the area to mean a market stall.

What’s on the Stalls?

  • Home-made cheeses — aged, herb-infused, strained; often made that same morning
  • Jams and fruit leathers — plum, mulberry, hazelnut, rose; straight from home kitchens
  • Fresh vegetables and herbs — whatever the season offers: nettles, wild garlic, cress
  • Amasra Salad ingredients — unripe grape molasses (koruk pekmezi), fresh walnuts
  • Handicrafts — embroidery, knitting, items worked with traditional regional patterns
  • Ready village food — at some stalls: fresh börek, gözleme or vegetable dishes

Why Go?

The Galla Market is not part of Amasra’s tourism face — it is part of everyday life. It was not arranged for tourists and has stayed authentic. Shopping here means buying directly from the person who made it.

If your visit to Amasra falls on a Tuesday or Friday, make sure to stop by between 08:00 and 09:00 in the morning; the best produce is gone before noon.

Location

Near the entrance to the walled old town, along the same route as the Woodturners’ Bazaar.
