Amasra’s quiet alternative

When the Large Harbour Beach overflows in the middle of summer, visitors who know Amasra head to Çakraz. About 14 km from Amasra town centre along the coast road, this small bay village has an uncrowded beach about 1 km long.

Why Çakraz?

Fewer crowds: Çakraz bay is far from major settlements, and visitor numbers are limited compared with central Amasra.

Length and space: You can find room on every part of the 1 km beach. While at the Large Harbour you need to arrive early to grab a spot, at Çakraz you can stretch out wherever you like at 10 in the morning.

Nature walks: The bay is surrounded by hillside trails. A short climb gives you a bird’s-eye view of Çakraz.

What’s on the beach?

Çakraz beach is less developed than the Large Harbour, but more natural:

• Sunlounger and parasol hire
• Changing cabins and showers
• Small kiosks on the beach, fish restaurants and cafés along the bay
• Dalyan Balık Restaurant within Özmenler Hotel
• Paid parking

Safety

A lifeguard service operates during the season. The sea can get rough depending on the wind, and strong currents form from time to time; non-swimmers and children need to be careful. On some days jellyfish may be seen in the water close to the shore.

Camping and accommodation

Çakraz is the camping hub of the Amasra area. Around Çakrazova and Çakrazşeyhler there are campsites with showers, toilets, electricity and parking; some rent out tents.

How to get there

• From Amasra: east along the coast road, about 14 km
• From Bartın: about 40 minutes by dolmuş (shared minibus)
• From Ankara: about 3.5 hours by private car

Exploring Amasra in the morning and swimming at Çakraz in the afternoon is the most common day route in the area. Bozköy Beach is also on the way.
