Uluyayla Highland

Ulus, Bartın

The Green Summit of the Black Sea

Uluyayla, in the Ulus district of Bartın, stands at an average altitude of 1,000 metres above sea level. Fed by the almost tropical humidity of the Black Sea coast, this high alpine meadow takes on a different face in every season:

Summer (June–August): The entire meadow is lush green. Forest, meadow and mountain flowers are intertwined. A perfect altitude for escaping the heat of the Black Sea coast.

Autumn (October–November): The most spectacular period. The spectacular autumn colours of beech and oak forests turning orange, yellow and red. During this period, photographers who make the journey up to the highland can capture extraordinary frames.

Winter: The snow-covered highland offers a distinct kind of silence.

The Cave: Underground River

Within the highland there is a cave through which an underground river flows. When you hear the sound of water muffled beneath your feet, you know it belongs to this underground stream. The cave entrance offers a basic exploration experience.

Wild Animals

On the mountain road to Uluyayla, it is possible to encounter roe deer, wild boar and various wild bird species. This makes the journey more exciting; early morning and late afternoon are the more fortunate times for such encounters.
